Ruby’s Studio: The Friendship Show Review & $25.00 Amazon Card Giveaway! (WINNER ANNOUNCED)

Ruby’s Studio The Friendship Show by the Mother Company is a movie set to help children understand what friendship is for and how to behave with friends. Ruby (played by Kelsey Collins) is the host of the show and is very energetic as she walks her four friends/classmates through educational points of friendship and has many featured animated segments and songs to break up the movie to keep children engaged.

I was provided a digital download to watch this show with my 4 year old daughter. I wasn’t sure how she would like it since it wasn’t a show about her favorite mouse or her favorite spanish speaking cartoon that has a monkey as a friend. In the first two minutes my daughter got excited about a rainbow and about how excited “Ruby” was in her opening! The show also gave me a fun art project that I can do with my daughter about making a friendship tree for a good friend. I hope to try this soon since I have all the supplies at home already!

It kept my daughter engaged and I was able to ask her some of the questions that Ruby was asking her “friends”.

We engaged in other conversation.  My daughter really liked it.  I actually have had “The Feelings Show” for a couple of years.  I tried to have my daughter watch it at the age of 2 and she was too young.  She is now 4 and we had popcorn and watched the entire 45 minutes together.

  5. “How would you choose which movies your kids watch?” I have a 5yr old and 4mth old so right now I pick which movies they watch. If my oldest wants to watch something I don’t think is appropiate for him at his age I just tell him he’s not able to watch that until he’s older. So far that’s working.

  8. I choose for them based on the rating of the move and then read the back to see why it was given that rating and if I have seen it my best judgement 🙂

  14. Now that my kids are 21 and 17, I don’t tell them what they can and can’t watch. We three do watch movies together though, and when it’s my turn to pick, I usually choose comedies.

  21. I usually stick with PG movies and anything rated higher I use something like Common Sense media to see exactly what might be objectionable.

  32. I typically do an internet search and read the reviews first. I also like the parental info on IMBd which tells you EVERYTHING that might possibly be considered inappropriate or offensive.

  34. I normally judge it on the rating of the movie or at least watch the movie first and then judge what parts she cannot watch

  36. They are getting rid of the “G’ rating so I may not be taking them to movies anymore. It’s getting harder and harder to find movies that aren’t violent. So sad.

  45. My kids are teens so we are pretty lenient with what movies they are allowed to watch. When they were younger, we used passwords on our tv, blocking certain channels, ratings, and subject matter.

I personally don’t have kids, but we are planning on kids, and I am going to thoroughly look into the movies they are trying to watch and I feel that imdb is a pretty good resource as they have the parental warnings. I look back at the movies that I watched when I was little and wonder how they got the rating that they did with all of the sexual undertones that are in them.

  65. I watch the trailers and usually ask on Facebook if anyone has seen it for reviews. Usually if you google the name of the movie and search why the movie is pg or pg 13 it will give you details as to what parts may be questionable.

  86. My kids are all grown but in the past if it wasn’t a kids movie they couldn’t watch it. I would spend the gc on supliments that my dr. wants me to take. Thanks for a great giveaway!

  90. I am still a college student and do not yet have kids. So, I would most likely use it to help buy myself books for my courses so that I can do well, get a good job, and provide a good healthy environment for my kids when I do have them!

    I’m pretty picky about what I let my kids watch, so I would probably buy some books for them.

  122. I would order a book. My grandkids parents have locks on the channels and teach them to avoid watching things on TV ad movies which are not within principles taught.
    Raise up a child as to the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.
    That is a very poor quote but it is true. If parents are diligent in teaching with love and example, the child will make mostly good choices. We cannot control them. We have to teach then trust them.

  129. Someone told me about a site called plugged in that rates kid’s movies. I also ask other parents with kids what they have watched and feel is not too scary, etc.

  134. I check out reviews before I let my kids watch a movie, and I watch it with them…. it seems lots of kids movies now have very vulgar remarks… ones i wouldn’t want my kids repeating!

  140. Some movies that are rated for children, I don’t approve of, due to references they might make. I have watched every movie they have watched! I often can trust Pixar and Disney always for a good movie!

  144. If I have any questions about a movie, I look the title up online. Detailed reviews, especially from another mom’s point of view, are always so helpful!

  147. I only let my son watch Disney or Sprout (and some that I think are safe and somehow educational) movies/shows for now.

  149. I try to pick shows that have no vile language, no sex scenes and no violence, I tape my television and if it is not appropriate my grandchildren do not get to see it. I woul use the gift card towards Christmas, unless something else breaks this week..LOL

  153. My son is just 4 and I am HIGHLY selective about what he watches. If it’s not educational or made for preschoolers (Dinosaur Train, Superwhy, Thomas, Curious George, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, etc) I screen it first.

    It’s hard to put a finger on exactly what criteria I’m looking for. I just know. RIO is a favorite of ours. It’s fantastic. Toy Story 3 is a no because the garbage scene is terrifying and most of the concept is just over his head. SpongeBob is a no in our house. Anything marketed for kids older than him (like the live action Disney shows…I don’t know all their names). But believe it or not, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the Johnny Depp version) is on our ok list.

  155. We use the rating as a loose guideline, but typically my kids don’t watch things that I haven’t seen beforehand. Sometimes the MPAA ratings seem so arbitrary, so we don’t feel like we can go only based on that.

  162. I work at a school age child care, and we do sometimes put on movies for the kids. We have to start with the ratings, but we also have to have viewed the movie ourselves to make sure there’s nothing questionable. Then, it goes by kids interests and age levels.
