Kin’s tagline is “No Force is Stronger Than Family”. But in no way does that make Jonathan and Josh Baker’s new movie a family movie. There are all kinds of brutality, sleazy criminals, strip club action, and bad moral decisions every way you turn in this film. If you like gun violence and questionable choices though, this movie is for you!!! I’m not sure why it’s called Kin or being hyped about being about family. It should have probably just been called Gun.
Myles Truitt stars as Eli Solinski, a 14-year-old kid who ends up on a cross country road trip with his brother Jimmy (Jack Reynor) who was recently released from jail. Along the way they meet a stripper, Milly(Zoe Kravitz). Dennis Quaid rounds out the cast as Eli’s and Jimmy’s father and James Franco shows up as Taylor, a psycho felon.
Eli finds a gun that possesses SUPER alien or otherworldly technology. Jimmy and Taylor just have regular old guns. Where guns go, violence tends to follow. Well, violence, and in this case, aliens follow as well. Jimmy is looking to run away, Taylor is looking for revenge and the aliens are looking for their missing gun and possibly something else. The aliens mostly just ride around looking cool on motorcycles.
If you like guns and like seeing people use them (especially innocent children that lose their innocence right on screen), Kin is a great movie to see. You will not be disappointed in the havoc that Eli, Jimmy, and Taylor wreak with their weapons.
