Mean Girls Movie 2024 Review

How much of the original 2004 movie is preserved?

Pretty much all of it. It does not stray from the original Mean Girls at all. This isn’t surprising. Mean Girls 2024 is written by Tina Fey, who wrote the book for the Broadway musical based on her 2004 screenplay, Mean Girls. Of course, the story is based on ‘Queen Bees and Wannabees’ by Rosalind Wiseman.

Speaking of Queen Bees, the new movie still centers around Regina George (Renee Rapp) and Cady Heron (Angourie Rice). The wannabees, Gretchen Wieners (Bebe Wood), Karen (Avantika), Janis (Auli’i Cravalho), and Damian (Jaquel Spivey), are still struggling to make their way in the hive. The movie may be twenty years later, but the story is still very relevant.

And Principal Duvall (Tim Meadows) still has Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

What are the differences between the 2004 and 2024 movies?

The singing! Duh. Basically, picture the original Lindsay Lohan/Rachel McAdams film, but with music. We’re talking same lines (they are iconic for a reason), children still acting like animals, weight gain bars, burn books, trust falls, math limitations, cheese fries, purple tuxedos. . .

Ms. Norbury (Tina Fey) gets a cute little tweak to her storyline, though (NO SPOILERS).

Who is this movie made for?

This movie is made for anyone who celebrates October 3rd, anyone who knows who Glen Coco is (you go, Glen Coco), and anyone who wears pink on Wednesdays. It’s also for people who loved the original movie and people who break into song for no reason at all.

Will kids want to see it?

Probably. Kids in middle school and up will enjoy the technicolor musical numbers and teen characters. There is alcohol and some sexual situations are depicted. Luckily, Cady doesn’t vomit in this movie.

Parents will enjoy the fact that Cady faces repercussions in this version. Instead of being lamely grounded, she gets suspended and gets her phone taken away from her.

Did Mean Girls 2024 make FETCH happen?

Yes.

Grool? Grool.

About Mean Girls 2024

From the comedic mind of Tina Fey comes a new twist on the modern classic, MEAN GIRLS. New student Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) is welcomed into the top of the social food chain by the elite group of popular girls called “The Plastics,” ruled by the conniving queen bee Regina George (Reneé Rapp) and her minions Gretchen (Bebe Wood) and Karen (Avantika). However, when Cady makes the major misstep of falling for Regina’s ex-boyfriend Aaron Samuels (Christopher Briney), she finds herself prey in Regina’s crosshairs. As Cady sets to take down the group’s apex predator with the help of her outcast friends Janis (Auli’i Cravalho) and Damian (Jaquel Spivey), she must learn how to stay true to herself while navigating the most cutthroat jungle of all: high school.
