Store-Brand-Formula

This will be a little different than you’re used to; I’m the “hubby” so often referred to in this blog. A story we’ve not shared is just after our first daughter was born I was given the difficult task of going up to NICU with her while Enza stayed in the room. Her temp was sky high, and they needed to give her food. They had two options. I’m dealing with the fresh emotions of being a father for the first time, not being with Enza who was surely distraught having her baby immediately taken from her. I’m being asked questions about which formula to give her…”WE NEED A DECISION SIR!”

“What’s the difference?” I asked, it seemed like a question Enza would ask. Enza is kind of like the Leslie Knope (Parks and Recs) of life. She loves being over prepared and further more loves notebooks. The response “Nothing really, they’re just different brands.” So I pointed to one.

So it came as no surprise when I read this: According to the “Pulse of Pediatricians” survey, 71 percent of pediatricians believe all infant formulas are basically the same; the brand doesn’t matter. In other words, because the FDA has so many regulations to protect your children, there really isn’t a lot of differences that are even allowed.

So, what is the difference? Often times simply the name, and PRICE! You can use a store brand, that 71% of pediatricians agree are the same, and you can save $600, why wouldn’t you?

Enza nursed both of our girls, but with both of them we had to supplement with formula for different reasons.  We believe that nursing is always the better choice for us, but understand that every situation is different and we don’t judge others.

Thank you for reading this post about Store Brand Formula!  Be sure to enter to WIN a $25 Visa Gift Card!  Enter the form below! This giveaway is open to 18+ & US.  This giveaway will end Monday night at 11:00pm CST. My biggest concern when my boys were using formula was finding one they could tolerate. Both had issues with formula, the oldest worse than the youngest. With my oldest, it took us six months to find a formula that would help him gain weight and tolerate. Until then, he only weighed 10 pounds and could not hold down formula like he needed. My youngest only took two months, then he was able to tolerate his formula.
