Is The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants Appropriate for Kids?

Guess what, SpongeBob fans? Our guy is OFFICIALLY 36 clams high, and you know what that means? That means he gets to do the funnest, bravest thing in the world! He gets to ride THE TWISTING TOTEM ROLLER COASTER!!!! SpongeBob (Tom Kenny) is a BIG GUY now! Of course, he brings Patrick Star (Bill Fagerbakke) with him for the thrill of his life, but is it? Sometimes Big Guys still need more courage than they initially think they have.
Back at our favorite underwater dining establishment, The Krusty Krab, Mr. Krabs (Clancy Brown) regales SpongeBob and Patrick with stories of his swashbuckling days and the Flying Dutchman (Mark Hamill) and Barb (Regina Hall).
SpongeBob seizes on the opportunity to follow in Mr. Krabs’ footsteps and embark on the adventure of his lifetime.
Naturally, with SpongeBob and Patrick, chaos, bubbles, and silliness ensue as they go to the not-so-scary underworld to get their swashbuckling bona fides. And though most of the movie takes place in the underworld, kids aren’t going to be scared in the silly place that director Derek Drymon has created.
The creatures that our heroes encounter are more cute, less Stephen King. Even though it’s a kids’ movie, parents will still be entertained with the craziness that is going on.
SpongeBob learns a valuable lesson in the end, so the one hour and thirty-six-minute run time actually has a parental payout in the end. Kids will learn about bravery while sitting through stunning visuals and bathroom jokes. Not a bad bargain.
Be advised, fans of Plankton and Sandy may be disappointed. They are barely a blip in the new movie. It’s all sponge and no squirrel.
What is the movie rated?
The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants is rated PG for the rude humor and cartoon violence. There are also the “scary” underworld scenes.
It is pretty safe to say that if you are SpongeBob family, go see it. If not, then don’t. This movie was made for fans.
What are the main themes of the movie?
There is a sweet theme at the end of the movie that families should find rewarding. The main theme is bravery and friendship.
Is the movie too long for little kids?
It is ONLY an hour and a half! That feels short compared to most films nowadays.
