Pokémon Detective Pikachu Review & Giveaway
Pokémon Detective Pikachu Review
by Myla Tosatto
In a perfect fictional world* we would all live in Ryme City, the fictional city of Pokémon Detective Pikachu. In Ryme City, Pokémon and humans live in harmony; no battles, no trainers, no conflict. Pokémon are our partners. People walk down the streets where Machamp directs traffic around a sleeping Snorlax, Aipoms friskily play above the streets where Squirtles are local hereoes and Snubbull act as policemen. Don’t forget to enter our Pokémon Detective Pikachu Giveaway below.

Caption: Detective Pikachu (RYAN REYNOLDS) in Legendary Pictures’ and Warner Bros. Pictures’ comedy adventure “POKÉMON DETECTIVE PIKACHU,” a Warner Bros. Pictures release.
This is the world that finds Tim Goodman (Justice Smith) searching reluctantly beside Pikachu (voiced by Ryan Reynolds) to find his father who went missing and is presumed dead. Pikachu, being his cute yellow self, has lost his memory and is desperate to find his human partner and regain his memory. Lucy Stevens (Kathryn Newton), a young network news intern, and Psyduck, are caught up in the same case. They are trying to unravel what happened to Harry Goodman in the city ran by Howard Clifford (Bill Nighy) and his son, Roger Clifford (Chris Geere).
This may seem confusing for someone who doesn’t understand the difference between a Pokémon Pocket Monster or say, a Polly Pocket. It isn’t too hard to figure out. Pokémon are cute and cuddly and very entertaining. Just go with it. Bring a kid or a millennial who probably grew up with them and who will giggle with glee through the whole movie. Admittedly, Movie Myla is a Pokémon person and caught all the “in” jokes so there is an extra added level of fun for me in Pokémon Detective Pikachu. But even if you have never felt the urge to ‘catch ‘em all’, you will enjoy this film.
Since Pokémon and humans live as partners in this movie, I’m interested in knowing which Pokémon you would like to have as your partner. Mr. Movie Myla wants the fiendish Meowth. I think I would have to get a Snorlax because it reminds me of Mr. Movie Myla. Jigglypuff would be fun for awhile but I would never get anything accomplished and it’s really hard to get magic marker off your face. Please leave us your Pokémon partner of choice in the comments section!
* In a perfect fictional world we would also have lightsabers, a time traveling Police box, a wand made of Phoenix feathers and a pager that buzzed Captain Marvel when we needed help saving the galaxy.
Now playing in theaters!
