Disclaimer: I reviewed Hotel Transylvania 2 in Miami on an expense paid trip to attend press coverage. All opinions are my own and my daughters!
Is Hotel Transylvania 2 too scary?
Hotel Transylvania is the perfect Halloween movie for your little kids! Get them in the spirit of Halloween and learning about he classics in a not-so-scary but with a VERY funny story! I am going to give you a mother’s review of Hotel Transylvania and paint the picture of our movie going experience.
My daughter never covered her face, she never cried, and the parts I thought would scare her made her laugh really loud! When asking her what she thought, she told me some of it was scary at the end when the climax was happening. She liked the movie especially at the beginning. She loved the first part when the baby says his first words, “Blah blah blah blah blah!” The comedy by far stood out more than the serious parts.
We watched the movie in 3D, the 3D added another layer of effects to the movie with making the hotel just a little bit more creepier. We liked it but seeing it without the 3D animations can possibly tone down any of the slight scariness (there isn’t much, trust me.)
Hotel Transylvania 2- A mother’s review
We first entered the theater and headed straight to the concession stands! While we were there my daughter had a Medium drink. This isn’t ANY size medium drink it was larger than a huge gas station large cup! She also got her own Medium sized popcorn! So moms, what are you thinking? How many trips will I have to take during this movie? My daughter has knack for needing to go to the restroom at the most terrible times. I expected at least once or twice to have to wrestle through the row to take her. I actually sat with 5 other children in our row, she made friends very quickly and they all wanted to sit together. . Can you guess how many of them asked to go potty during the movie? ZERO! I was SO shocked! It was the very first thing that impressed me. EVERY child was completely entertained and we sat with kids ages 5 through 8!
A Halloween tradition!
You know those classics that you watch around different holidays? I am not sure a Christmas has ever gone by without our family watching Elf or Home Alone. Hotel Transylvania 2 (and the first one) are two of those movies to add to your Halloween movie list! They are funny and very entertaining for the entire family. Even the young kids aren’t going to get scared! Adam Sandler, Adam Sandberg, and Selena Gomez do an amazing job at the voices! Hearing Adam Sandler’s Dracula voice for kids to enjoy is a lot of fun! He is definitely a classic comedic actor that I love to hear and see act!

Drac’s pack is back for an all-new monster comedy adventure in Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania 2! Everything seems to be changing for the better at Hotel Transylvania… Dracula’s rigid monster-only hotel policy has finally relaxed, opening up its doors to human guests. But behind closed coffins, Drac is worried that his adorable half-human, half-vampire grandson, Dennis, isn’t showing signs of being a vampire. So while Mavis is busy visiting her human in-laws with Johnny – and in for a major cultural shock of her own – “Vampa” Drac enlists his friends Frank, Murray, Wayne and Griffin to put Dennis through a “monster-in-training” boot camp. But little do they know that Drac’s grumpy and very old, old, old school dad Vlad is about to pay a family visit to the hotel. And when Vlad finds out that his great-grandson is not a pure blood – and humans are now welcome at Hotel Transylvania – things are going to get batty!
Selena Gomez is one of the prettiest and most genuine ladies I have been blessed to interview! She was amazing with the kids, adults, and the interview environment was just so happy and pleasant! I love her more NOW than ever before! <3

My kids loved the first one so I’m glad they stuck with the same humor with the second movie so I know it’ll be safe for my 5 year old to see. This is one we will probably wait until it comes out on DVD to see though.

I was worried that my niece would be a little bit scared of certain parts of the first one, but she loved every minute of it. I also enjoyed it and it was definitely enough of a good story to keep me interested. I am looking forward to seeing part 2 with her.
