House of Gucci Review

The House of Gucci was built in style. The House of Gucci was built on fashion. The House of Gucci was built on passion. The House of Gucci was also built on rage, power, jealousy, and murder. Ridley Scott’s new feature House of Gucci depicts the wild ending of the Famiglia Gucci. On the outside, the Gucci label never really faltered, but looking closer into their behaviors, it’s a testament to the lasting image of the Gucci name.

House of Gucci Review

The end chapter of the Gucci family’s involvement in the Gucci brand begins with the love story of Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga) and Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver). Though Maurizio is drawn to the woman of lower birth, they start out as a happy couple much to the angry reaction of Maurizio’s father Rodolfo (Jeremy Irons). Rodolfo kicks Maurizio out of the house (and therefore any dealings with the House of Gucci) but Rodolfo’s brother Aldo (Al Pacino) welcomes Maurizio and Patrizia back in. Aldo is not that welcoming to his own child Paulo (Jared Leto) who remains on the outside looking in.

House of Gucci Review

This story is a wild ride. We get to see the highs and lows of the Gucci family come to life. Rodolfo is a movie star! Maurizio would rather be a lawyer! Aldo favors money over quality! Paulo is creative! Patrizia has a psychic on call (Selma Hayek)! These folks don’t live ordinary lives. The clothes, the sets, and the objects that surround them are unreal. They float from house to house, from country to country. All the while being draped in the trademark green and red stripe and the two interlocking G’s that represent the House of Gucci. And can we talk about the soundtrack? This is surely the most eclectic collection of music in a movie in quite some time!

House of Gucci Review

Warning: the movie is LONG with a capital L. It’s an expansive story. If you have a soda with your popcorn, you may have an expansive bladder.
