Are you wondering if Joy Ride is appropriate for families? In order to write this spoiler-free movie review, I’m going to need my synonyms dictionary. I can only use raunchy once or twice, and I’m gonna need it way more than that.

With the upcoming movie Joy Ride which will be in theaters on July 7th, you may be wondering if taking your kids to see the film is a good idea as a parent. We hope this review helps you make the decision for yourself although we have some strong opinions and here is why. This post contains affiliate links.

Is Joy Ride Appropriate for Families

Is Joy Ride appropriate for Families?

From the depraved minds of Cherry Chevapravadimrong, Teresa Hsiao, and Adele Lim (who also directs) comes the hilarious new movie, Joy Ride. Did I say hilarious? I also meant to say hilariously lewd. And crude. And very, very naughty. But in the best way possible.

What is the movie’s plot summary?

When a young professional Audrey (Ashley Park) goes to China for business, she brings along her best friend Lolo (Sherry Cola) to be her translator, who brings along her cousin Dead Eye (Sabrina Wu). The women meet up with Audrey’s college roommate Kat (Stephanie Hsu). After a chaotic night at a nightclub, Audrey needs to find her birth mother in order to please her client. The quartet takes a crazy tour through China and then Korea to find Audrey’s mom.

Are there any explicit content or scenes that may not be suitable for my family?

Yes. This obscene (in the best way) flick swings big for laughs and rarely misses. It also packs an emotional punch. It’s more like Bridesmaids than The Hangover.

What genre is the movie?

This movie is a comedy! You will be laughing quite a bit and sometimes in an uncomfortable way.

What is the movie’s running time?

The movie is 1 hour and 32 minutes.  The movie is enjoyable and shouldn’t feel very long.

What is the movie rated?

Joy Ride is rated R.  When I first shared about the Joy Ride Advance screening it wasn’t rated yet. You have the sexual content/language, the violence, the potty words of bad language, and all the other fun that comes with an R-rated comedy.

When is the release date?

July 7, 2023 but you can pre-purchase tickets today!

About Joy Ride

The hilarious and unapologetically explicit story of identity and self-discovery centers on four unlikely friends who embark on a once-in-a-lifetime international adventure. When Audrey’s business trip to Asia goes sideways, she enlists the aid of Lolo, her irreverent, childhood best friend who also happens to be a hot mess; Kat, her college friend turned Chinese soap star; and Deadeye, Lolo’s eccentric cousin. Their no-holds-barred, epic experience becomes a journey of bonding, friendship, belonging, and wild debauchery that reveals the universal truth of what it means to know and love who you are.

Joyride Trailer

Watch the trailer below…looks funny right!

Is the movie appropriate for children?

This is not a movie you will want to see with your children. Not even your adult-aged children. It’s funny, funny, funny but might give you a squirm if you are with your kids.  If you are an adult who enjoyed the movie don’t forget to read the best Joy Ride Quotes!
