Is PROJECT HAIL MARY Appropriate for Kids?
What is this Project Hail Mary that I keep hearing about?
Project Hail Mary is the new movie based on Andy Weir’s (The Martian) novel of the same name. It stars Ryan Gosling as Dr. Ryland Grace. It also stars Sandra Huller as Eva Stratt and James Ortiz as Rocky, but this is all Gosling all the time.
What is the movie rated?
Project Hail Mary is rated PG- 13, presumably for a little bit of drinking, a few jump scares, mild peril, and talk of suicide (Project Hail Mary is a suicide mission, and the movie expands on that a bit).
Will kids want to see it?
It is geared toward adults, but children 10 or older will likely want to see it. It is a familiar science fiction movie, not unlike ET, The Martian, and The Arrival. There is a warm and fuzzy alien in the movie that will delight and entertain them. It runs over 2.5 hours, but it never dragged.
Will parents want to see it?
Of course!! And they will want to see it on the big screen! Preferably IMAX! Space is really cool in Imax.
What is Project Hail Mary about?
Project Hail Mary is about the end of Earth as we know it. A micro alien cell is slowly devouring our sun. The people of Earth unite to help humanity stay alive by launching a scientific spacecraft into another solar system to figure out to conquer the alien cells. The story is told through the memories of Dr. Grace as he tries to save Earth. Along the way, he develops the friendship of a space creature who is in the same predicament.
Is Project Hail Mary also a book?
The movie is based on the book, Project Hail Mary. If I love the book, should I see the movie?
Yes! Readers may be disappointed that there isn’t as much science and math in the movie, but the payoff is that you get to see Rocky in his little space suit that lets him hang in Grace’s atmosphere. AMAZE AMAZE AMAZE!
