Tips for Movies at the Park

Movies at the Park

When everyone else is off on an exciting summer vacation and you feel like you’re stuck at home, there’s no need to be sad! There are plenty of fun summer activities for your family to enjoy right in your own home town. In fact, one of the best summer activities happens to be hanging out at the park watching movies under the stars! That’s right, lots of cities host free outdoor movie nights and if you live in a beach city, it’s even better! Here are some tips to have a fun outdoor movie night with your family.

Pack a Picnic

Movie-watching just isn’t complete without a snack, but instead of buying from the concession stand, pack your own picnic. Bring water bottles, juice boxes, small sandwiches, chips or popcorn, and napkins and hand wipes while you’re at it. You’ll get way more for your money with your own hand-packed picnic versus what you would normally expect to pay at any movie theater.

Bring Seating

If you’ll be sitting in one place for about two hours, you’re going to want to be sure that you’re comfortable. Bring a blanket or beach chair for everyone to sit on. Also, if you plan on sitting on a blanket, bring a tarp. When you sit on the ground at night, the cool air tends to make the grass dewy which in turn makes your blanket wet. And nobody likes a wet blanket.

Get into Character

Dressing up in costume is a bit of an obsession for us, but it also makes any event so much more fun when you’re in character. Based on the scheduled movie, wear something inspired by your favorite character. Whether you’re dressed in a full-on costume or wearing a shirt with artwork from the movie, show everyone how much of a fan you are with a little cosplay.

Dress in Layers

Summertime weather can be a bit unpredictable. It can go from scorching hot to frigidly cold in no time. Pack sweaters for the whole family or encourage everyone to wear light layers to make sure that you’re all comfortable for the entirety of the film.

Yes, it’s easy and fun, (and did we mention great on the wallet?) If you want to host your own movie night in your backyard, I’ll be sharing tips and themes all month long over at the Pure Costumes blog. Do you like to watch movies at the park?
