Sony Pictures PIXELS Movie Review

Calling all 80s LOVERS who LOVE comedy to go and see PIXELS this weekend! So if you like goofy and ridiculous comedy to get your laughing, an amazing soundtrack, and a throwback to the 80s era you are going to LOVE Pixels. I have read several other PIXELS movie reviews and I have seen mixed emotions.  This movie is created to be a family movie and not an Oscar winner!  I thought the movie was funny, clever, and at one point I had to wipe the tears off of my face from watching Josh Gad’s amazing performance and improve! Even when interviewing the cast the cast mentioned how dedicated he was to this movie that some days he just kept going and going.

There is one particular scene in the movie that I would say is my favorite, which would be the scene when Josh Gad’s character gives a pep talk to the Navy Seals when they realize that the world is being attacked. He is quite the character in the movie! He plays Ludlow one of the arcaders in the movie. He is by sure the weirdest one of them all and my favorite!

I went to an early screening to see Pixels while I was in New York for a conference! While I was there I was invited to interview the cast of the movie! We first screened the movie and went to a busy theater near Town Square in New York. The theater was filled with mostly viewers and not just press. At the end of the movie the crowd applauded! This was definitely meant to be a family movie for those who appreciate comedy and gaming! Gaming is such a real part of society now-a-days. Even teachers are trying to figure out how to gamify their classrooms for their kids.

So although everyone that watches this movie isn’t going to be able to find aliens taking over the world because of video games realistic, they are going to be able to go down memory lane when kids did use to go to arcades to meet-up!

The movie is about 1980s kids, Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), Will Cooper (Kevin James, Ludlow Lamonsoff (Josh Gad), and Eddie “The Fire Blaster” Plan (Peter Dinklage) who all use to play video games growing up. They sent a time machine of video game videos up in space. Aliens find it and “accept their challenge” accept they are playing to fight the world by sending pixels down to earth! These video gamers are the first to realize what these attacks were and are called to save the world. The movie is filled with tons of humor! They work together with Lt. Col. Violet Van Patten (Michelle Monaghan) who helps create the weapon to fight the aliens and falls in love with someone…I bet you can guess who?!

The video games featured are Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Centipede, Q-bert (my favorite) and Space Invaders. There are lots of 80s references, music, and more! For an entire list of these 80s games you can check out this link HERE.

If you enjoyed my PIXELS Movie Review and are ready to disconnect and laugh with your family, be sure to purchase your tickets to the movie HERE from Fandango.com!

In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper (James) has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Sandler), now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Dinklage and Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet. Monaghan plays the team’s unique weapons specialist.

I’m hoping this movie does turn out better than some of the reviewers have posted. I’d hate for my 80’s memories to be tarnished!

This sounds like a pretty cool movie. My son loves this kind of stuff, so I bet he would like this movie.
