I had an amazing opportunity to jump on a call with the award-winning Tony Hale! You might know him as Forky. You might know him as Byron “Buster” Bluth. Now you get to know him in a very natural role as a father, as Taylor Wyatt!

Exclusive Interview with Tony Hale for Sketch
Does your child have a creative mindset that seems to come to life at times? Taylor Wyatt’s young daughter did in the new movie Sketch. We are overjoyed to have gotten to interview Tony Hale, who acts as Taylor Wyatt. We’ve got to talk about the inspiration of the movie and the process taken to get there!
Tony Hale shared that this role is “probably the closest to who I am.” As he himself is a father and was able to relate to someone who wished to keep his kids from struggling. He said he hopes parents can learn to “give themselves a lot of grace” when watching this movie.

We asked Hale what Forky would have Amber draw if he wanted something to come to life. After some laughter, he responded in his iconic Forky voice, “I don’t know! If somehow they could just draw ‘I don’t know’ on a paper and see how that would manifest itself. Just a giant question mark, since he loved questions.”
We learned that the design concepts were inspired by Seth’s children’s drawings. He saw the drawings, then brought adult artists to help the designs come to life! Along with this, he proudly claimed that the children on set were “authentic” and a pleasure to work with.

The next thing we asked was about whether Buster was to dance at Ally Wyatt’s funeral: Then what song would he dance to? “The final countdown is hard to beat, but I think he would do—for this one, I think he would do Monster Mash!”

One incredible thing we learned is that Seth has ideas for a sequel! “I love D’Arcy Carden and these kids and Seth so much that, good Lord, we could go to like a video game and I’d join them.” Seth has so many ideas that the future of Sketch’s wonderful and wacky world is unknown. If there is a future film, Hale says “the challenge of being present” is a topic he would love to cover.
Sketch Review
Before interviewing Tony Hale, we were able to screen the movie. Every parent should see this movie. It is okay to make mistakes as a parent. It is okay to discuss dealing with trauma and having conversations with your kids. The movie is a family film rated only PG, but it could feel a bit intense when it comes to some of the fighting scenes. Kids are resilient, and the conversations and messaging behind the movie are great. The movie is a big action movie like you would see in Jumanji.
