Across The Spider-Verse: Who is Spider-Punk? A new fan favorite for sure!

If you haven’t seen Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, then you may or may not know Spider-Punk if you follow the Cinematic Marvel Universe. He first appears in Across the Spider-Verse but he isn’t new to comic lovers.

Spider-Man is filled with many alternate universes which have different variants and stories of Spider-Man. There are tons of universes that also have had a character be bitten by a radioactive spider. Spider-Punk is an intriguing and rebellious iteration of the beloved superhero.

Spider-Punk from Across the Spider-Verse

So what is everything you need to know about Spider-Punk. I was on a mission to learn about him after realizing, he was the true star of the most recent movie.

My family and I even picked up a comic called Spider-Punk: Marvel 3 Variant Edition and we are off to share everything that we have learned so far.

• Spider-Punk assassins President Norman Osborn from his universe in the comics. Spider-Punk is part of the fight against the corrupt regime which worked with V.E.M.O.M. (Venom: Enemy of the State).
• He first appeared in “Edge of Spider-Verse” #2, which was released in 2014.
• Spider-Punk is an alternate version of the character Spider-Man, existing in a universe where Peter Parker embraces the punk rock culture.
• Is known as Hobert “Hobie” Brown and is voiced by Daniel Kaluuya in the Across the Spider-Verse.
• From Earth-138 when Peter Parker becomes Spider-Man but adopts a rebellious, punk-inspired persona.
• He wears a mohawk, a studded leather jacket with a large spider logo, and uses a guitar as a weapon.
• He first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #10 in January 2015.
• Hobie canonically dislikes being referred to as ‘Spider-Punk’ and would rather just be called Hobie.
• He is one of the spider-people who recruit Miles Morales to defeat Superior Octopus when it was found that his clone machine, which he was actively using, was made with Inheritors’ technology.

Spider-Punk’s Super Powers

Apparently, depending on what you read his powers might slightly be different. For the most part, he has the same superpowers as Spider-Man.

• Spider-Punk has the ability to adhere to and crawl on walls and other surfaces, similar to a spider.
• Like Spider-Man, Spider-Punk has enhanced strength, allowing him to lift heavy objects and overpower opponents.
• He possesses heightened agility, reflexes, and coordination, enabling him to perform acrobatic feats and dodge attacks.
• Spider-Punk has a “spider-sense” that alerts him to impending danger, granting him enhanced situational awareness and the ability to react quickly.
• He can produce and shoot webs from devices or web-shooters he designed and built. These webs can be used for swinging between buildings, creating web-based weapons, and immobilizing enemies.

Spider-Punk Comics

There are more comics than what I am going to list. As a matter of fact, I have one in my hand now. If you are looking to read more about Spider-Punk check out the following comics.

• Edge of Spider-Verse #2 (2014): This is the first appearance of Spider-Punk in the “Edge of Spider-Verse” storyline, where different versions of Spider-Man from alternate realities are introduced.
• Spider-Geddon (2018): Spider-Punk plays a role in this crossover event, which serves as a sequel to the “Spider-Verse” storyline. It features an array of spider-powered characters, including Spider-Punk, teaming up to battle the Inheritors.
• Ghost Spider (2019): While not specifically focused on Spider-Punk, the “Ghost Spider” comic series features a crossover event called “Spider-Geddon: Ghost-Spider,” where Spider-Punk makes an appearance alongside other versions of Spider-Man.
• Spider-Verse Vol. 3: Spider-Zero (2020): Spider-Punk has a significant role in this limited series as part of the “Spider-Verse” event, which explores various alternate versions of Spider-Man.
