What is the movie rated?

Power Ballad is rated R for language and drug use throughout the film. The language is much more prominent than drug usage.

What are the main themes of the movie?

The theme was choosing what life you want to lead. It had two characters who made contrasting sacrifices, and how their challenges differed because of it. One character sacrificed his career for a family, the other sacrificed family for a career.

Is the movie too long for little kids?

The movie is not terribly long. Its runtime is 1 hour and 38 minutes, making it a shorter film. Despite this, if you are watching it later in the day, it might still be a lot for younger kids. It is up to the kid’s tolerance to know if this is a good movie length.

Are there any explicit content or scenes that may not be suitable for my family?

There was a lot of violence in the movie, so it may be aggressive for young children. There was also multiple scenes which had characters making out, insinuating sex. Power Ballad also had drug usage. All of this may be graphic for younger children, but you know what is appropriate for your child.

Movie Review

The movie had cute character interactions, but it felt like a one-time watch. The music was fun, but it quickly became repetitive. The character development felt random and confusing, and the plot was predictable over all. It is a fun movie to see, but it was not one of our favorites.

While we felt like the movie was a fun evening watch, it is not something we would recommend to others. The predictable plot made the movie less exciting overall. It felt like quick entertainment instead of a heartfelt, inspiring watch. Despite this, the acting was very impressive and funny.

About the Movie:

When Rick (Paul Rudd), a past-his-prime wedding singer, meets fading boy-band star Danny (Nick Jonas) during a gig, the two bond over music and a late-night jam session. But when Danny turns one of Rick’s songs into the hit that reignites his career, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves – even if it means risking everything he cares about. From writer-director John Carney (Sing Street, Once), POWER BALLAD is a feel-good story about music, self-respect, friendship, and the price of ambition.
