I was so excited to meet with the Animation team again from Disney’s Animation Studios! This time around we sat with Ronalto dos Anos and Chad Sellars! These interviews happened while I was in LA for a Zootopia Press Day to learn about the movie and celebrate the Blu-ray release!
— Head of Animation: Renato dos Anos
— Animation Supervisor: Chad Sellers
Where did the Zootopia Animation Team do their animal research?
- Animal Kingdom
- Rescue Center
- Safari Park in San Diego
- They brought animals to them in the studio!
What did the Zootopia Animation Team learn?
- A moose brings lips and tongue down to eat.
- Wilderbeasts aren’t really bright. We watched of a video of them trying to cross the river.
- Zebras are brighter and they stick together.
- A cheetah has a still face.
- Animals tend to travel in herds.
- Everyone meets at the watering hole, whether they are prey or predators.
- These Animators really had to study the different districts that all the animals came from.
Overall meeting with these two masterminds from Disney’s Zootopia Animation team was fun, educational, and exciting! They discussed how they like to take footage and look for specific characteristics of the animals and make those come to life! We learned interesting facts like how Clauhauser has a hidden Mickey on his cheek! We also learned that with the scale of animals being true to size that they had to draw the entire animal even though only a part of it was on the screen.
